Gezondheidsbevordering bij mensen met een psychische aandoening en/of licht verstandelijke beperking vraagt visie, scholing en samenwerking van sociaal werkers en verpleegkundigen

Het belang van gezondheidsbevordering bij mensen met een psychische aandoening en/of een licht verstandelijke beperking in de langdurige zorg is groot. De sociaal werker en verpleegkundige hebben beiden een rol in gezondheidsbevordering bij deze doelgroep. Uit praktijksignalen blijkt dat professionals hierin knelpunten ervaren. Literatuuronderzoek naar deze knelpunten leverde geen resultaten op. Om te onderzoeken welke knelpunten professionals tegenkomen in het werken aan gezondheidsbevordering in de ambulante setting, is aan de hand van zes interviews een verkennend kwalitatief onderzoek uitgevoerd. De resultaten geven inzicht in persoonlijke en omgevingsfactoren die een rol spelen, in het spanningsveld dat professionals ervaren tussen eigen regie en professionele verantwoordelijkheid, in de wisselende aandacht die gezondheidsbevordering krijgt vanuit de organisatie en in de begeleiding van de professionals. In het algemeen wordt gezondheidsbevordering gerelateerd aan fysieke gezondheid, wat vragen oproept over de kennis over gezondheidsbevordering en de (brede) visie op gezondheid. Ook geeft het onderzoek inzicht in de knelpunten die in de samenwerking worden ervaren, onder andere de uitdaging om als professional aan de juiste informatie te komen, het geringe contact met andere disciplines en het samenwerken binnen de versnipperde financieringsstructuren. Dit verkennende onderzoek geeft het signaal dat meer praktijkgericht onderzoek naar gezondheidsbevordering bij deze doelgroep nodig is.

A rich palette of Bible use

The aim of this study is to gain empirical knowledge about how the Bible functions in the context of Protestant Christian primary schools in the Netherlands. It presents the results of an empirical explorative and qualitative study on the perceptions of teachers and school administrators (directors and internal supervisors) on the goals of Bible use in Protestant primary education, as well as the roles of teachers and pupils, and how these can be understood in terms of religious pedagogical models and theories. Five small focus group interviews with teachers and six interviews with school administrators revealed a variety of goals teachers hold regarding Bible use in education and a variety of divisions of teacher–learner roles in this regard. The findings also show some particular characteristics when compared with secondary schools.

Betrouwbaar partnerschap tussen religieuze organisaties en lokaal bestuur

Dit artikel presenteert een casestudy naar de samenwerking tussen religieuze organisaties en de gemeentelijke overheid in het sociaal domein. Vanwege transities in het sociaal domein zijn gemeenten sinds 2015 verantwoordelijk voor een heel aantal taken die voorheen onder de rijksoverheid en de provincie vielen. Daarmee betreden gemeenten nadrukkelijker het lokale ‘maatschappelijk middenveld’ met zijn religieuze veelkleurigheid. Hoe doen gemeenten dat?

De nutteloosheid van rust

Een kleine tien jaar geleden publiceerde ik in Wapenveld mijn eerste beschouwing over de prestatiemaatschappij. Het was het begin van een decennium nadenken, schrijven en spreken over een thema dat mijzelf en vele tijdgenoten onder de huid zit: prestatiedruk, onrust en stress. Het artikel destijds was grotendeels een beschouwing van de maatschappelijke en culturele achtergronden en sloot af met het vermoeden dat de christelijke traditie remedies bevat en een radicaal perspectief geeft op ontspannen leven. In de jaren die volgden ben ik dat vermoeden verder gaan verkennen.

L’Autre Rive, Gembloux / L’Autre Rive: uit de boot durven stappen

In de Waalse provinciestad Gembloux (België) startte Eric Zander samen met anderen een nieuwe geloofsgemeenschap. Na eerdere teleurstellingen wist hij dat allerlei klassieke patronen niet meer werken. De pionierende gemeenschap gooide het over een andere boeg en zo ontstond een weliswaar kleine, maar vitale en naar buiten gerichte geloofsgemeenschap. Zander schrijft erover en vervolgens reflecteren Nadine van Hierden en Sake Stoppels op deze nieuwe gemeenschap.

“Shared care” through instant messaging updates in youth care; an interaction analysis (Post-print)

In this paper we present an analysis of WhatsApp interactions in youth care. In family-style group care young people temporarily live in the family of professional foster parents (PFP), while they regularly visit their birth parents (BPs). Our data consist of instant messaging conversations between 11 pairs of PFPs and BPs during two months. Using Conversation Analysis (CA), we focused on the social interaction between BPs and PFPs, achieved in and through multi-modally constructed sequences of updates - responses. Updates are used by BPs in the context of the transfer from the child from/to the PFP to display responsibility towards the PFP and for the child. Also, PFPs use updates to provide BPs quasi primary access to the experiences of the child, centrally by sending images. Across these functions, we observe specific social actions of BPs and PFPs; while BPs work to display responsibility, PFPs subtly empower BPs as parents.

Green Ganesha Chaturthi

With the world facing an ecological crisis, Hindus are challenged to reflect on the ways they impact their environment. The last few decades witnessed a rise of theological reflections on Hindu traditions—especially scriptures and concepts (not least by western scholars)—that advocate environmentally friendly perspectives. This stands in sharp contrast with the multiple examples of how Hindu ritual practices cause harm to the environment. Ganesha Chaturthi is a festival that due to the public element of immersion of Ganesha idols, has led to severe pollution of waterbodies. Because of the attention that has been paid to this lately, the festival now calls for ecofriendly alternatives. This article analyses how recently, environmental awareness is ritualized and materialized in the festival of Ganesha Chaturthi. For this, fieldwork was conducted during Ganesha Chaturthi in Chennai and Mumbai in 2022. The focus of the article lies on the ecofriendly material and ritual innovations of the festival—for instance the variety of Ganeshas made of biodegradable materials—and the dynamics of interaction with (alleged) traditions to validate a Green Hindu identity in general and the development of a Green Ganesha in particular.

A Twist to Apologetics

In their missionary endeavors, many Christians today may well experience a gap between articulating traditional beliefs (handed down ‘cognitive truths’) and a desire to live as a Christian in their ordinary, daily life, focusing on embodiment, practical action, or doing. This leads to resistance or insecurity with respect to engaging in apologetic dialogue or conversations about being a missionary church. Based on explorative systematic research and field work I propose six lessons for enhancing missional resilience, fitting for the times of transition in which churches in the secular West currently find themselves. This proposal is based on four background perspectives on changing epistemic paradigms and the emerging interest in ‘embodied knowing’ (by Bonnie Miller-McLemore, Stephen Toulmin, Alister McGrath and David Bosch), an epistemological perspective on ‘embodied knowing’ based on the Biblical covenant (by Esther Lightcap Meek), a liturgical perspective (by Nicholas Wolterstorff) and two pioneer perspectives (field research).
