Minor in short

In this minor, you will be prepared to provide healthcare and health promotion to people in low-income settings or with a migration background in an interculturally sensitive way.

Minor specificaties

This minor is taught in English

You design advice to health professionals in a low- or middle-income country on improving their public health practice and provide culturally sensitive health education in line with this advice in collaboration with others. You give your opinion on a global health issue and indicate your contribution towards this issue.

At the end of the minor…

1) You have basic knowledge of diseases in low- and middle-income countries.

2) You design advice for health professionals in a low- or middle-income country based on a context analysis containing recommendations for public health practice, in collaboration with others.

3) You provide health education in a simulated setting, in collaboration with others.

4) You reflect on your approach to cultural sensitivity while giving advice and conducting health education by using peer review.

5) You give your opinion on a global health issue in a low- or middle-income country by using evidence-based resources, making ethical considerations, and using peer review.

6) You indicate how you could personally contribute towards a global health issue.

An inspiring lecture introduces every theme.  From there, you immerse yourself in the theme via online learning units. All gathered knowledge and skills come together during a subsequent workshop. Two weekly you have coaching sessions on intercultural sensitivity. An excursion and a full-day serious game on health resource allocation are also part of the programme.

The final assessment of the minor consists of the submission of a portfolio (individual) and an advice report (as a group). This is combined with a presentation of the advice report (as a group) and a presentation on your opinion on a global health issue and your contribution towards it. The assessment equals 15 EC.
